I always think I need to sit down and write my blog because I’ve got something to write about, but when I finally get the chance I forget most of the things I want to mention!
Roommate update: Jason left the bungalow on Thursday for a week because he’s gone to Bangkok, his replacement is a Scottish guy called Jason (2), by the time he gets back from Bangkok Kirst should have left so he’ll hopefully come back into our bungalow.
I’ve been training pretty hard this week now there’s other people in my room that go to morning training I’ve got extra help getting up on a morning! It’s getting close to crunch time on deciding whether or not to fight, I’m training hard for the next 2 weeks to see where I can get my fitness as this is key to having a good fight experience or not (win or lose). After this time I will have just enough time I think to get a fight but it’s no real loss if I don’t fight, it’s not like it will complete my Thailand experience as everything here has been amazing anyway. I hyperextended my toes on my right foot in VIP the other week so am having to hold back on my kicks at the moment, I’m having the weekend off from Muay Thai (still do weights tho) and hopefully have it much better on Monday when I hope to start VIP with Theng. Also, along with the mandatory 150 sitsup per session I’m forcing myself to do 500 situps for a week and hopefully continue doing so for the rest of the trip!
Last night (Friday) I went to my first Muay Thai fight night, I decided to finally go to one because Dado is a genuine bloke and is a professional fighter so I knew it would be a decent fight, it also happened to be for the World Muay Thai Federation 170lb belt. During the day I managed to convince Faith, Kirst and Adrian to come along too, you pay for the ticket (£20!! rip off) at the gym who give you a receipt which you give in at the gate of Bangla Stadium (or wherever the fight is), if you wear a Rawai vest or t-shirt you get in the minibus for free which is a bonus. Bangla has recently moved into ‘new premises’ but it was pretty crap, there were domestic leather chairs for VIP tickets (£40!), soft stools for about £25 and then we were sat in the bleachers, but this wasn’t too bad as we were quite high up (it was only 5 rows up, it was a small ’stadium’ it maybe held 200 people!) so it was good for photos and videos.
The fights started with two 8yr olds who would really entertaining although a bit weird watching small children fight in the exact same way an adult would (e.g. no protection). In total there was probably about 8 fights, two title fights and probably 3 thai vs thai fights as the rest were thai vs western or western vs western. Adrian and I stuck 1000 Baht (£20) each on Dado to win with the help of our trainer Fin who was near the bookies at the time, thanks to the 4th round TKO victory (leg kicks) we doubled our money, result! After the fights we had a walk round Patong trying to find some shops open but most had closed as it had just gone midnight. We found a travel agent that would take us to Phi Phi island for £24 which isn’t too bad (didn’t book it but might do so tonight if we head back that way). We managed to haggle a Tuk Tuk down to 500 Baht to get us back to Rawai (probably 20 mins drive or so) which was good, but after taking a few photos from the taxi I decided to go through the photo album, only to find most of the pictures and videos I had taken that night were gone! The SD card could show me the pictures before last night and knew there were photos of the fights etc but they were all coming up as a blank screen, this got me in a bad mood because I had video’d a lot of the fights and took tonnes of pictures through the night which isn’t something I usually do (have to start making the effort because of hardly any photos so far). When we got back I got the Tuk Tuk to drop me off at Freedom bar so I could down my sorrows before closing, then when I got back home I put the card into the laptop to see if I can salvage anything, nope nothing! I woke up early this morning still pissed off so searched on the net for a solution, I was able to acquire some software that magically recovered all my lost images and videos which was amazing! Can’t believe I’ve never come across this sort of thing before, anyway I copied them onto the laptop ASAP and then binned the SD card, I had packed a few just in case anyway.
This morning me and Kirst went to Promthep Cape which is sign posted over the road from where we’re staying, took at least 20 mins to get there and it was already boiling by this point (9am). It’s a tourist area with coach loads always go up there, it’s pretty high up so good for a few photos, there’s also a string of shops but they all sell the same stuff! I ended up taking about 60 photos up here, we jumped the tourist wall and walked through a mini jungle, climbing down rocks before eventually getting to what could be the most southern point of Phuket - I was so far out I was able to take a photo of Nai Harn beach front on! Got quite a few good pics here, it took us about 10 minutes just to walk/climb to the end of the point. Back at the shops got a few gifts and a Chang vest just for me before we headed back via Yanui beach, as soon as I got back I took the photos off the camera just in case this memory card decides to break too.
Here’s a pic of me and Dado before we left the gym on Friday night:

And a pic of me and Jason (far right) before he left on Thursday:
